Isabella has been on her own for just a few years, and lives a modest life in a working neighborhood of  Latina. She lives with her son Paolo, named after his father’s favorite soccer player, Paolo Rossi. Paolo, like his famous namesake, has a phenomenal left foot; Isabella is obsessed with the idea of him becoming a professional soccer player.

When she learns of a tournament that could give her son the opportunity to play before the most important Italian talent scouts, Isabella, blinded by this hope, falls prey to unscrupulous types in the world of youth soccer. In addition, she must reconcile problems of daily life as a single mother and problems of the past that still haunt her.
