Isabella has been on her own for just a few years, and lives a modest life in a working neighborhood of Latina. She lives with her son Paolo, named after his father’s favorite soccer player, Paolo Rossi. Paolo, like his famous namesake, has a phenomenal left foot; Isabella is obsessed with the idea of him becoming a professional soccer player. When she learns of a tournament that could give her son the opportunity to play before the most important Italian talent scouts, Isabella, blinded by this hope, falls prey to unscrupulous types in the world of youth soccer. In addition, she must reconcile problems of daily life as a single mother and problems of the past that still haunt her.
Salvatore Allocca was born in Rome. In 2011, his first feature film How to Find in the Right Way the Wrong Man debutted in theatres. He won the Best Director award at the Venice Film Festival for his short film The Trip. Regarding his film Natural Lefty, Allocca said of the opening scene with Isabella: “she is in front of the net and that rappresents a woman trapped in a dream that became an obsession. Isabella wants at all costs that her son breaks into the world of soccer”.
