Patto
"A look into a historical chapter which is now part of the national collective memory and identity." - MY MOVIES
PLOT: The Mountain Pact is the first act in Europe through which equal pay between men and women was established. It took place in Biella - the oldest textile district in Italy, in 1944, during the WWII, when entrepreneurs, workers and partisans met secretely to sign the agreement, long before the 1960s when such achievement become law.
From Milan catwalks a young fashion designer goes to Biella to trace back the roots of the quality of the fabrics he uses to create his own collections. He meets places, outputs and protagonists, such as Nino Cerruti and Argante Bocchio. The former is the internationally renowned stylist and son to one of the signatories of Pact, the latter is a partisan commander and witness of what took place then.
The finest fabrics in the world are still produced there. All international fashion designers purchase their fabrics in Biella, where brands like Cerruti, Ermenegildo Zegna, Loro Piana, Barbera and many others were born.
The sense of the film is that the quality of the material products is rooted in the quality of the immaterial relations between people, something that cannot be easily relocated.
A metaphor for our present which must recover a sense of future and social cohesion. An inspirational story.
