La chimera
"a beguiling fantasy-comedy of lost love: garrulous, uproarious and celebratory in her absolutely distinctive style” - THE GUARDIAN
PLOT: Everyone pursues a Chimera that they never manage to grasp. For some it's the dream of easy money; for others, it's an impossible love.
Returning to a small town on the Tyrrhenian Sea, Arthur reunites with his rogue band of grave robbers, theives of ancient Etruscan objects and archaeological treasures. Arthur has a gift that he puts at the service of the gang: he feels emptiness. The emptiness of the earth in which the vestiges of a past world are found. The same void left by the memory of his lost love, Beniamina. In an adventurous journey between the living and the dead, between forests and cities, between feasts and isolation, the intertwined destinies of these characters--all in search of the Chimera--unfold.

Alice Rohrwacher, born in 1981 at Fiesole, studied in Turin and Lisbon. She worked as a muscician in theatre before becoming involved in cinema. In 2011, at Cannes, she made her feature film debut with Corpo Celeste, winning the Nastro d’argento Best New Director award. At Cannes, in 2014, she won the Grand Prix Speciale della Giuria for Le meraviglie and in 2018, the Prix du Scenario for Lazzaro felice.
Regarding her film, Rohrwacher said: "I remember well the atmosphere of the "Great Raid", as archaeologists call it, that sort of fever that gripped central Italy at the end of the 70s and then continued throughout the 80s, in which people tore up, sold, and ruined the land. I remember it well because in front of the bar there were always these men who did nothing and who told me they were grave robbers, during the day they stood there lazily watching the cars go by and then at night they had these terrible adventures.".
