Walter Veltroni, born in Roma, is a politician, journalist, author and director. Elected mayor of Rome for the first time in 2001, he was reelected in 2006, stepping down in 2008. His documentaries I bambini sanno and Quando c'era Berlinguer were nominated for the David di Donatello Best Documentary award.

Regarding his film Tutto davanti a questi occhi, Veltroni stated “If there is awareness of history then the risk of history repeating itself is much less than it may appear.”
